Eugene Tsakos

MYP/DP SENCO

Mr Eugene is from Athens, Greece. He holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Athens and a MSc in Clinical Linguistics/Neurolinguistics that was jointly awarded by the consortium of the University of Eastern Finland (FI), the University of Potsdam (DE) and the University of Groningen (NL), following a two-year mobility plan in different clinics and research centres across Europe, such as the neuroimaging lab of the Diversity and Inclusion Research Group at the University of Potsdam (DE) and the University Hospital of Groningen (NL).

His own research focuses on the programming and use of evidence-based video games and their role in enhancing reading fluency for students with reading difficulties.

He also has experience with museum education thanks to an internship at the Centre for Hellenic Studies of Harvard University and the Foundation of the Hellenic World (Athens).

With regard to teaching, Mr Eugene has worked with both typical and clinical students at the SOS Children's Villages (Athens branch) and privately in Greece. He was also involved in a language acquisition project for refugee children in Greece three years ago.

At ISH, Mr. Eugene coordinates the Learning Support Department of the Secondary School, teaches Mathematics and runs the Robotics Club of the school.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

The astonishing nature in such close proximity to the city but I also the efficiency of the city, for example the timing of traffic lights at street intersections.

Stella Strouvali

PYP Learning Support Teacher

Ms Strouvali Stella was born and raised in Athens, Greece. She holds a BA in Primary Education and an MSc in Special Educational Needs from the University of Athens, Greece. She is currently attending an MA in TESOL from Oxford Brookes University. Ms Strouvali has worked in several educational settings in Greece (special educational needs schools, centers for assessments and diagnosis for learning disabilities and psychological disorders and international schools). She has also worked as Research Assistant at the Psychology Laboratory of the University of Athens. She joined ISH in 2016; initially as an intern in the Learning Support Services Department and afterwards as a Learning Support Assistant. From August 2017, she works as a Learning Support Teacher in the same setting.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

"I love the 'hygge' atmosphere in winter and Copenhagen's cycling culture."

Maciej Karwowski

MYP Learning Support Teacher

Mr. Karwowski is from Poland. He holds a BA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and MA in English Literature. He has worked in schools in Poland and Turkey. He moved to Copenhagen in January 2017 and started working at ISH in October 2017. His favourite hobbies are reading, running and travelling.

What I most like about Copenhagen?

"I love parks and running in them and being able to cycle everywhere."

Kirsten Thøgersen

School Psychologist

Mrs. Thøgersen is a Danish licensed clinical psychologist with experience working as an educational psychologist at international schools in Brussels and in China.

She combines her experience of working with children in international settings both in her private practice and at international schools, as well as teaching child psychology to both parents and psychology students.

Since moving to Denmark in 2009, she has worked with the psychological evaluation of children and adolescents with special needs at both the Aleris psychiatric Hospital and at the private clinic, PsykologCompagniet in Copenhagen.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

Pune Thomas

MYP/DP Learning Support teacher

Mr. Thomas was born and raised in Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Biological Chemistry and a PhD in Molecular Biology at The University of Queensland, where he also worked as a tutor in various Biology and Chemistry laboratory classes for 8 years. He lived in Buenos Aires for a year where he also studied Spanish. He has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) at Queensland University of Technology.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

“I like the freedom of expression and cosmopolitan attitudes. I also like that I can get around everywhere on bike and have left car-stress behind."
