Nedzat Asanovski

Head of School

Mr. Asanovski was born in Macedonia in a little town called Resen where he spent the first years of his childhood. He came to Denmark with his parents when he was six years old. He has also lived in Sweden and loved learning the Swedish language. He speaks Danish, Macedonian, English, Turkish, German and Swedish.

Mr. Asanovski went to high school in Denmark called “Johannesskolen” before beginning his studies at Copenhagen University where he majored in English Literature and minored in World History, while earning his teaching qualification. Mr. Asanovski worked in a private lower secondary school in Copenhagen for four years before starting his adventure at ISH.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

“I like that the Danish government is committed to helping its population by providing excellent social services, education and healthcare.”

Stef Fleet

Primary School Principal

Stef Fleet is Primary School Principal at the International School of Hellerup, Denmark. He has a Master of Teaching from Sydney University, a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, and attends regular leadership and teacher training every year. Stef is also a board member of the Nordic Network of International Schools. In education, he has worked in other roles as PYP Coordinator, Managebac Coordinator, and Lower Primary teacher. Stef also volunteered for some years as a crisis counsellor and trainer and this was the foundation for working with children and schools. He is passionate about his family, the ocean, and fostering relationships.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

"The clean, fresh ocean water; perfect for a swim in summer and a dip in winter."

Mustafa Gezen

Secondary School Principal

Mr. Gezen was born and raised in a suburb outside Copenhagen, called Albertslund. He has lived most of his life in Copenhagen and five years in Odense, while studying at the Southern University of Denmark.

He holds a BA in the Science of Religion and Danish from the Southern University of Denmark in Odense. He earned his Master’s in the History of Religion from the University of Copenhagen. From 2010-2012, Mr. Gezen was the assistant manager at ISH (at the time named Østerbro International School) but decided to work as a high school teacher in the Danish educational system (Studenter eksamen - STX) at a private high school. In 2014 he was recruited to build the Diploma Programme (DP) at ISH as DP Principal.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

"I love my home country but I especially appreciate the rich and numerous voluntary associations (foreninger) which makes it possible for local and international people to meet and experience differences across cultures."

Joanna Okolowicz

PYP Coordinator

Ms Okolowicz was born in Poland. She has taught at both IB and non-IB, primary and secondary schools in Poland, England and Denmark. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education. She also acquired an EAL degree at Cambridge University in the U.K. and a Reading degree at Columbia University in New York. Ms Okolowicz’s primary goals are to identify and develop children’s talents and to encourage them to be inquirers. She applies cooperative and creative techniques in the classroom.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

"I like the fabulous, functional sensibilities of Danish design and Danish architecture, both modern and classical. I also enjoy the Danish winter hygge atmosphere full of candles and beautiful light."

Abenaa Uttenthal

MYP Coordinator

Ms Uttenthal was born in New York City, USA, and she is very proud of her Ghanaian heritage. She has taught in four countries, mainly in secondary schools in the United States, Ghana, Sweden and Denmark. She holds an IB Certificate in Teaching and Learning and a Master’s Degree in Communication for Development. Her initial teacher training was in special educational needs, and she also holds a certificate to teach English as an additional language. She grew up as a third culture kid and strives to support TCKs, like her, to meet their full potential and build meaningful connections despite all of the change they experience.

What I most like about Denmark and Copenhagen?

"I like that Denmark is a country with a well preserved history and proud culture. I especially appreciate how the culture is expressed through delicious food."

Evis Qeska

DP Coordinator

Mr. Qeska was born and raised in Albania. He has been living in Denmark for more than 10 years now. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics and Business Administration and a Master's degree in Finance from Århus University as well as an international teacher certificate from Cambridge and ECIS. Before coming to ISH, he worked as a teacher in different schools in Jutland. He currently leads workshops for the IBO and conducts school visits as well. He teaches Business Management in the DP besides his coordination duties.
