The Primary Years Programme (PYP) at ISH nurtures and develops young students as active and caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom. The PYP is open to students aged 3 to 12. At ISH, the PYP is divided into two sections: Lower Primary, which consists of Pre-K to Grade 1, and Upper Primary, which consists of Grades 2-5.
Units of Inquiry
The Primary Year Programme is guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet
These units of inquiry are explored using knowledge and skills derived from the main curriculum areas of languages, mathematics, social studies, science, arts, and personal, social and physical education as well as transdisciplinary skills with an emphasis on inquiry.
