International School of Hellerup is an IB World School for the Middle Years Programme (MYP). Being an IB World School means that ISH shares a common philosophy, meaning a commitment to a high quality, challenging and international education www.ibo.org/MYP.
The Middle Years Programme is designed to challenge teenagers in a number of ways. As part of the Middle Years Programme the students at ISH are given an awareness of the ever changing world through a challenging and demanding curriculum, fostering an appreciation and a love of learning. The curriculum at ISH enables students to make connections between the subjects and the concepts taught, in the context of today’s world. Together with the IB Learner Profile attributes http://www.ibo.org/en/benefits/learner-profile/, our students are encouraged to inquire, take action and reflect on their learning.
Through the Concepts and Global Contexts, students are taught how to view subject content through a variety of frameworks and make associations between subjects.
The Middle Years Programme and its curriculum at ISH have been created around the MYP model.
The subject groups of the MYP at ISH are:
- Language and Literature (English and Danish)
- Language Acquisition (French, German, Danish and EAL)
- Individuals and Societies
- Arts (Music, Visual Art and Drama)
- Physical Health Education
The curriculum also includes Global Contexts; Approaches to Learning (ATL) and Service Action. These Global contexts connect academic subjects with the real world. They encourage students to make links between what is being taught and learnt in the classroom and in the real world.
We don’t have external examinations at our school. Students are assessed according to the IBO criteria and have a wide variety of formative and summative assessment tasks throughout the year. In MYP 5, the students undertake the Personal Project to show that they have acquired the skills taught and learnt in the MYP.
